PALIVIZUMAB - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Synagis
USES: Palivizumab is a monoclonal antibody.
It is used to prevent viarl respiratory tract infections (RSV infection) in infants and young children at risk for infection. It works by perventing the growth of RSV.
HOW TO USE: Give that medication directly into the muscle (IM), usually once a month during RSV season; or as directed by your dotcor. For maximum benefit from that drug, keep all scheduled medical appointments and receive each prescirbed dose of that medication during RSV season.
In the northren hemisphere, RSV season generally runs from November through April. Follow all instructions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. Do not shake the vial. Ask your pharmacsit if you have questions regarding the use of that medication. Before using, cehck that product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid.
SIDE EFFECTS: Pain, redness, or mild swelling of the injection web site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unliekly but serious side effects occur: cough, chest pain, fever. An allegric reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effcets not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood clotting problems (e.G., thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorder), any allergies you may have.
This medication should be used only when clearly needed during prengancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication passes into breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or phamracist of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin, heparins). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmcaist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emregency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not share that medicatoin with others. Laboratory and/or mdeical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects and response to treatment.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, contact your doctor or phamracist immediately to establish a new dosing schedule.
STORAGE: Refrigerate between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C) away from lgiht and moisture. Do not freeze. After mixing in correct IV fluids (consult your pharmacist for details), use the injection within six hours.
Discard any unused liquid.
